Bancroft and his friends searched the area once the strangers had left. One of the nearby rooms had a table with three polished skulls sitting on top — very strange decor. Druidly thought they might be magical, so the party kept them. A few minutes after they finished searching, a group of adventurers came from a door to the south. There was a tense moment, with Druidly moving his hand toward his pouch of spell components, but the newcomers left without a fight.

There was a tense moment, with Druidly moving his hand toward his pouch of spell components, but the newcomers left without a fight.
The rats that burst through one of the other southern doors a moment later did not. Druidly caught the first wave with his favorite lullaby, but more were already coming through.
Bancroft dropped his caltrops at the room’s exit to slow them down while the group fled to the exit. Uliny fell to the flood of rats and was likely dead before they began to feast.
Tohru swarmed up the rope first like some kind of squirrel. Druidly grabbed the other rope but fell halfway up, twisting his ankle when he landed. Irulan stepped up, lifting the wizard onto her back and climbing for both of them.
With both ropes occupied, Bancroft hung back and prayed for Sylvanus to shield him, but his prayers failed. The rats began to swarm into the room. Bancroft slew the first of them with a single blow, then leapt to the rope Tohru had used and began to climb. Delpha pulled him the rest of the way up, but the others were screaming about a skeleton — one of those from before had lingered on the upper level.
The party called it for the day, gathered their rope, and left for Helix.
That evening, they held a wake for Uliny. There was a lot of drinking.
The next morning, Bancroft woke in his room with a badger sleeping next to him. The animal looked as puzzled as Bancroft was.
The only clue was a ragged scrap of leather around the badger’s neck, perhaps the remnant of a collar, and the broken window. Regardless of the circumstances, the badger was pissed and dealt Bancroft a nasty bite. He fled out of the room, naked, with only his sword, gasping a quick prayer for healing. The badger pursued, chewing the door to bits. Bancroft fled again to the inn’s common room, praying once more that Sylvanus would ease the badger’s wrath.
Somewhere in the distance, Sylvanus laughed. The barkeep grabbed a pitchfork and drove the badger away, then demanded that Bancroft pay for the damage to his room. Bancroft still owes him 3 gp.
