Wyz grumbled and groaned. His minions refused to obey him and return to the tomb with the tome. They insisted on opening a new barrow! And of course it was filled with ghouls hiding behind a tapestry. The undead creatures swarmed, striking Lessa and Wyz. Perch blocked the blow with his shield, but the creatures ripped it off of his arm. Wyz fell unconscious, and Lessa just stared into space, paralyzed with horror. Perch grabbed Wyz and fled with his unconscious body, leaving Lessa with a frozen look of horror on her face. After a moment the small halfling vanished from sight, confusing the ghouls, but they quickly followed the rest of the group.
Wyz woke up later, with the ghouls gone, to Helfen healing his wounds. The party waited for a time in the barrowmaze, but eventually returned to town without seeing Lessa. On the way back, a group of delvers supposedly fleeing from skeletons caught up to the group. When called out on the lack of skeletons, they demanded ransom. Grudging the group paid 9 gp, but left with their lives.
Lessa made it back to town and met us at the tavern. She had managed to collect the loose gold, which just about made up for the bandits.
On the way back to the barrowmaze, a skeleton crawled from the ground, but it retreated towards the barrowmaze rather than attack. When the group reached the previous barrow, the bag of Wyz’s belongings was gone and the group moved to another barrow rather than descend further in to find it.
After just a few minutes of digging, Helfen spotted skeletons in the distance. Most of us hid, but Lessa attacked one with a sling and drew its attention. Perch slashed the other with his sword, first a feint, but then a mighty followup blow. Wyz sighed at the idiots who attacked rather than simply hiding, but struck the one Perch had damaged with a glancing blow from his sling. Helfen invoked Fortunata and told the one remaining to git, and it did. The remaining skeleton fell the next round.
Helfen invoked Fortuna to heal Lessa’s wounds while we thought about what to do next. We hadn’t had much luck digging safely today…
