Wyz paced back and forth in his room at the inn, keeping himself awake and annoying El Vis who was sharing the room. The book of magic haunted his dreams and waking thoughts alike. Who could say what secrets might lurk within? Yet, it was hardly safe to brave the barrowmaze alone. When the others were finally ready to return, they weren’t interested in going after the book. Instead, the barrow with the ooze was chosen for a return visit. Humans say humans smart, but Wyz knows better. Humans are dumb.
The one called Dame Delphia kept finding more treasure that the others had overlooked, though, so the trip wasn’t useless. A pouch of coins and a dagger were her prizes this time, hidden high up on the wall of corpse niches. She nearly fell to her death trying to retrieve it when the ooze tried to drop from the ceiling onto her. That led to a chaotic scene, though Wyz missed most of it by doing the smart thing and leaving the barrow at the first opportunity. Those who remained below eventually defeated the ooze. Carefully taking notes of their individual accounts, Wyz determined that ordinary attacks did seem to damage the ooze, including clubs, sling stones, and arrows. Fire did nothing besides waste oil.
With the ooze gone, wyz focused his arcane sight on the items they had found alone with the statue. The dagger they had found glowed, but he lost focus on the spell before any other details were revealed. Something to look into more closely in town.
Perhaps next time Wyz would get his green hands on the book.
