We told Aspith about the ghost at the lake, who is known as the Phantom of the Lake. Aspith reacted strongly to the mention of the Druune, who wear tall black robes with cowled holds, smelling of mold; Aspith believes the Phantom is likely a divine figure, trapped by the Druune to guard the place. The Phantom is likely associated with a saint from the local church, Saint Waylani, in Brackenwood. Brackenwold is the capital of the area, and Mr Underhill runs an inn that Aspith recommends. We learned about the difference between craghorns (bad, diseased) and brilleaghs (good).

With raftbuilding supplies in hand we set out for the Gorthstone. Building the raft was easy enough, and we poled out to the central stone, which is surrounded by a low stone surface like a small island. The stone itself is covered in writing, but we would need to get closer to read it.

The phantom on the lake interrupted us as we closed in. I was able to ask her for information about herself that we could research, but mostly to distract her from our interest in the stone. She said she was once a high priest of the Greya sect, which gives us something to go on.

Then a second ghostly apparition told us to stay away from the gorthstone if we value our lives. This one was just a grey mist without discernable humanoid form.

The stone is covered in silver writing with one line of magical script (Read Magic) and much more in old Druunic. I identified the spell as Trap the Soul (6th level arcane magic), and that I could learn the spell with about 6 hours of study. This pissed off the three Druunic priests and their three bramble minions. They cast spells at me, but I could see them coming and dodged – right up until one of the spells hit and everything went black.
