We found some langswith herbs that Nara claimed would cure the strange disease, burned the bodies, then spent the night at a camp. In the morning, Sanfire had recovered from immediate danger. He headed back to Prigswort to convalesce on his own. We discussed other possibilities. Apparantly there’s a ghostly lady in the lake at a place called Gorthstone insisting that the staff of the apostle must be restored. Gorthstone itself is a black obelisk in the middle of a circular, placid pool of water.
We decided to explore the possibility of building a raft to reach the obelisk, but no one had an axe. Back to Prigswort to get one.
When we got there, Prigswort was under attack by a small force of craghorns, who were burning buildings in the northwest of town, mostly outside of town. We circled to the southeast and made a dark camp overnight, trying to avoid the battle. No such luck, as a craghorn snuck up on our camp overnight and knocked me out during Nara’s watch. She says it was a craghorn anyway. I just woke up with a headache and a wound in my forehead that spelled out “Carl”.
We headed to the outskirts of town looking for shelter, but the place seemed deserted. The largest building, Bag Manor, used to manufacture bags until that business came to an end. They had warding sigils up on their windows, but the building seemed deserted. We found refuge in a small cottage, inhabited by a man and his aging mother. We spent the night safely with Edwin and his mother; Edwin spent the time talking with Nara about the advbenturing life. In the morning, I gave him 7 gp, and told him to use it to buy a short sword and get training from the Grey Company, but specifically not to sign up as a torchbearer. There’s no future in torchbearing.
We stopped at a smithy for repaired gear and a hand axe to make a boat, then to Raptallen’s to report on our journey to Harrowmoore. Aspin paid modestly for the failed attempt, but seemed to enjoy hearing about our adventures, particularly my near-death experience with Carl’s club. It might be worthwhile for other members of the Grey Company to stop by and talk with her about actually being dead, and being brought back by a priest. Some of them have actually had that experience. I don’t envy them.
